MGA/Coverholder Delegated Authorities

We specialise in facilitating delegated underwriting facilities for our wholesale/retail MGA/Coverholder client base with appropriate insurance capacity providers, allowing the MGA/Coverholder to underwrite on behalf of the insurance carrier in an agreed format and therefore reducing the insurance carriers operating costs.
However, in today’s “hard market” and with Solvency II in mind, there is greater emphasis on the MGA/Coverholder to demonstrate the following:
  • Full Compliance and Conduct Risks procedures to be in situ
  • A business plan detailing the business proposed and how sourced
  • 5 year triangulated earned to incurred figures to be provided for the delegated authority sort
  • Deductions from gross to net and IDD compliant
  • Details of Underwriting systems and Underwriters experience
  • Copies of preferred policy wordings
  • Policy limits, deductibles and proposed rating guide
  • Claims handling procedures
  • Management of accounts i.e. insurer monies and client monies
  • Projected 3-year gross premium incomes (a minimum of £5m (or Euro equivalent) is normally required in year 1
All of the above points should be covered in the initial presentation and we can assist here, in return our capacity providers will consider a long-term commitment of 3 years but subject to agreed underwriting performance parameters.
We do not charge upfront fees and are remunerated by a share of the commission either from the insurance carrier, yourselves or by brokerage. If we do not succeed, then we do not get paid!

If such an approach is of interest to you or your firm or you are seeking additional or replacement capacity, then contact us.
